Rising Pop Star Embraces Her Identity
Chappell Roan, known for hits like “Pink Pony Club” and “Good Luck, Babe!,” has officially come out as a lesbian. The singer, who has openly explored her sexuality through music, shared the news at a concert in Ohio. “Finally, it’s like, ‘Oh, I know why. It’s because I’m gay and nothing’s actually wrong with me,’” she told Rolling Stone.
Fans Celebrate Her Announcement
Supporters praised Roan for her openness, with one writing, “One of the main pop girlies right now being openly queer, constantly defending trans rights is so important to me.” Another fan added, “She is a beacon of light for all of us in the queer community.”
Overcoming a Conservative Upbringing
Raised in Willard, Missouri, Roan grew up attending church and was taught that being gay was a sin. “I couldn’t express myself the way I wanted to,” she told the BBC. Moving to LA and experiencing queer spaces inspired her song “Pink Pony Club.”
Breaking Free from Shame
Roan admitted struggling with internalized shame due to her Christian background. “I was scared of flamboyantly gay people because I was taught that,” she revealed. However, she now embraces her identity, adding, “I just wasn’t supposed to be sleeping with men.”
