Growing up in a broken home, I never expected much from my family. My mother left when I was ten, and my father was abusive and manipulative. Still, I never imagined my sister Cheryl would betray me — twice.
A Plea for Help
Ten years after I left home, Cheryl emailed me claiming her child needed urgent surgery and she had no money. “Dear Emma,” it began — formal and distant. Attached was a photo of an adorable boy. I sent her the money.
The Truth Unravels
Weeks later, with no response, I visited my hometown and bumped into an old friend, John. When I mentioned Cheryl’s son, he looked confused. “That’s strange… I live across from her. I didn’t know she had a kid.” I later saw my father drinking wine in Cheryl’s home — no kid in sight.
Betrayed Again
The next day, John told me Cheryl claimed I was delusional and had been hospitalized in the past. “She said you were imagining things,” he muttered. My own sister had made me look crazy to cover up her lies.
Lesson Learned
Sometimes, we have to accept the past and move forward. “Let go and start living.”
