President Donald Trump faced backlash after several moments of “disrespect” at Pope Francis’ funeral in Rome. The beloved pontiff passed away at 88, and over 200,000 mourners, including world leaders like Prince William and President Zelenskyy, gathered to pay respects.
Trump stirred controversy by wearing a bright navy suit instead of traditional black, which symbolizes mourning at Catholic funerals. His choice stood out sharply among attendees, leading critics to call him “an embarrassment.” As one social media user said, “Trump at the Pope’s funeral. No traditional black suit, hunched over and sleeping!”

Additionally, Trump and Melania reportedly stepped onto the sacred carpet surrounding the Pope’s coffin, an area meant to remain untouched out of respect. Cameras also caught Trump texting, briefly nodding off, and chewing gum during the service — behavior viewers slammed as highly inappropriate.
Finally, Trump made a swift exit after the ceremony, prompting more criticism. “He left well before it was over,” one comment read, summing up public frustration over his behavior during the solemn event.
